Completion of EFTCoR

October, 2006

BYG Systems has recently completed the 'EFTCoR' project, a four-year program under the European Commission GROWTH initiative.

Working in collaboration with eleven partners from six different European countries, an automated process was developed to remove the coating from a ship’s hull in an environmentally friendly way. BYG developed the software for planning, monitoring and managing the process around its Grasp simulation application.

The EFTCoR system decided that grit blasting was the best method to use, as dust emissions are avoided by using dust-free cleaning heads. A recycling system dramatically reduces the waste and residues of the process.

A family of low-cost robotic devices handles the positioning of the cleaning heads assisted by an AVI (Automated Visual Inspection System) and a Web-based monitoring system.

The completion of the EFTCoR project continues BYG's successful involvement in a number of European projects over the past 15 years.
